Emtek Featured Product: Stretto Narrow Trim

Several years ago, Emtek came out with a new narrow trim called the Stretto. The trims are between 1-1/2″ wide by 11″ tall and 2″ wide by 10″ tall. Perfect for narrow style rail door designs. They also come in a short version, which is 1-1/2″ wide by 5″ tall. They have a sleek look and can be paired with any knob or lever style Emtek offers. Emtek makes several designs in Solid Brass, Sandcast Bronze, Lost Wax Cast Bronze, and Stainless Steel. Each set is also sent with an upgraded 28 degree latch in either 2-3/8″ or 2-3/4″ backset.

Some Quick Tips

The major thing to note on this sleek design is that you cannot install it on a door that has pre-drilled 2-1/8″ diameter holes, as the trims won’t cover the hole. These use a special door prep of 1-1/4″ diameter holes. If you opt for a keyed or privacy version, you’ll need a second hole drilled below your main hole 3-3/8″ on center.

Another key thing to note is on the dummy functions. Usually when Emtek sells a dummy, it is in a pair. Its surface is mounted, so you can split them up and use them on different doors. But with the Stretto, it is different. You can buy either a dummy pair or a single sided dummy. The dummy pair is back to back, mounted on one door, while the single sided dummy is bolt mounted, with screws on the opposite side of the door, cover caps included.

As previously mentioned, the keyed and privacy use an additional hole. Both use a thumbturn on the inside to lock and unlock the door below the knob or lever. The privacy has an emergency release function on the outside. You can simply use a small coin or flat head screwdriver to retract the bolt. The keyed function has a cylinder on the outside to lock and unlock the door.

One last reminder: make sure you don’t have predrilled holes before you purchase these. We’d hate to have you fall in love with them, only to find they won’t work on your doors.
